Travel- and landscape photographer Adam Rabinowitz and girlfriend Brigid’s winter holidays of 2012 will always be remembered by endless sand dunes, wildlife and open dirt roads.

They spent a relaxing, adventure filled holiday of sightseeing in our picturesque neighbouring country, Namibia. Adam artistically captured the vastness and beauty of the Namibian landscapes giving us a glimpse into the visual delight of a holiday they embarked on.

To visit Namibia is to experience a country of huge blue skies, endless horizons, amazing sand dunes, a harsh but beautiful coastline, and a landscape full of game reserves. For me, Namibia is one of Africa’s most enticing destinations.

Traveling to Africa has always been a passion of mine but Namibia was going to be different as we’d planned a self-drive around one of the most diverse countries I’ve ever visited. Every one of my colleagues that I had spoken to about Namibia told me it was the best country they’d ever been to - could this really be true?

Travelling through Namibia by car is one of the best ways to explore this extremely vast and beautiful country.

During my time in Namibia, I took a trip to visit the Himba tribe. Back then I didn’t really know much about the ethics of visiting a tribe and I was probably a little naive.

The Himba are a semi-nomadic people who live in northern Namibia and traditionally depend on cattle and goats for their livelihood. The women are striking in appearance, covering themselves in a mixture of butter and ochre called otjize. It’s the otijize that gives their skin and hair a slight orange/red tint.

Over 100 miles long and 1,800 feet deep, the Fish River Canyon is the largest in Africa and the second largest in the world (by some measures).

After we crossed the border from South Africa, we headed straight for what many had told us was Namibia’s most stunning destination. And boy, it did not disappoint!

Cheetahs need their speed to hunt and aren’t going to risk an injury fighting with a crazed soccer mom (or in my case a short, slightly chubby guy from Wisconsin), relentlessly defending her delicious little morsel of a child.

Leopards on the other hand… Don’t eyeball them. If you somehow spot a leopard – the ninja of the big-cat world – it’s probably because it already has it’s jaws wrapped around your jugular. But just in case you’ve seen it, and you’re not already 3/4 of the way across the River Styx, just keep walking. Whistle a happy tune and try to act nonchalant.

Hi! My name is Tess, I’m 30 years young and I blog over at A Life Full of Serendipity. As the name suggests, I’m completely enamoured with serendipitous discoveries.

I find the best moments in life happen when you look for something and end up with something that turns out to be so much better. This goes for love, work and of course, travel! Leading a life full of serendipity is awesome!

On my travels I prefer to just get lost somewhere and see what happens, as opposed to planning every detail.

Having fallen in love with Namibia for its ever-changing scenery, spectacular views and sense of adventure on offer, our Namibia specialist Matt set off to find something more remote.

Searching for a true African wilderness experience led him to the Damaraland and Kunene regions in the north of the country and a unique mobile safari. Here are Matt’s highlights…

"It was in Namibia that I realized: I believe good travel is the kind of travel that makes you feel completely strange. Not strange as in “weird”, but strange as in “foreign”, strange as in “completely and utterly lost”, strange as in “I-have-no-idea-how-the-hell-I-got-here-but-I-kinda-like-it…”

It therefore might come as a surprise to you that out of all the places I’ve been to, I felt strangest in Namibia. As a German (though often in disguise) I should have felt right at home in this former German colony. And fair enough: In the bigger towns I sometimes wondered if I had actually missed my flight and was still back home in my all too familiar neighborhood.
